Hiya, $name. You remember your first investigation is today? You overslept? And you have amnesia! You're one of the two youngest detectives in the world, and now you don't even remember how to investigate...oh, no...
It's okay. You can //do// this. I'll help you. I'll help you remember everything...let me just get my asthma pump here... //breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe//... Okay, I'm fine now. Here, I'll help.
Do you want to go [[straight to the scene of the crime->goback]], or should we [[pack some of your detective stuff->detectivestuff]], first?When you show up at the crime scene, you see that your rival detective Gemma is there as well. What is she doing here?
"Why are you here, loser?" she snarls. "You wanna see my first victory as a detective? Or are you just here to beg for my mystery?"
"What are you talking about?" you say. "I'm here to solve the mystery!"
"Stop kidding yourself -"
"Gemma, $name," a voice said. You and Gemma turn around. The officer in charge of the case. "So lovely that you could come! I suppose you're wondering why you're both here. You should see this as a trial run. We just need to see who is the more capable detective, so we can give them the more difficult cases. They'll handle the murders and whatnot. The other will be in charge of robberies and such. Capisce?"
"So...this isn't a real murder?" you say.
"Yes, yes, of //course// it's a real murder," the officer says. Had he gone insane? "Yes. So here, we've got the addresses of all the suspects. Here is where you can inspect the crime scene. You can make notes and stuff in those cute little detective notebooks you carry around with you everywhere, and when you think you know the culprit, come tell me. Since this is a test, I'll just run through everything to see if it makes sense. If it doesn't...well, this is the only time we won't trust your judgement if it seems even a little off. And here's the autopsy report. Got it? On your marks, get set, GO!"
"Those murders are MINE, idiot," Gemma hisses in your face, before running off to look at the crime scene.
"I don't think so, Gemma," you growl.
[[Begin the investigation->investigation headquarters]]Yeah, it's probably better if we do that first. Great. So, um, click on what you want, and that will be added to your pack...

//Name: George Montgomery
Cause: Stabbed with a dagger
Found by Fiona Mill and friend Victor Harrison. Dagger or knife found at the scene of the crime was certainly the murder weapon. Stabbed at 10:03pm, found at 10:07pm, died at 10:05pm.

[[We should probably go back to investigating...->investigation headquarters]] You spray around the living space. No blood. Hmmm...unless your luminol is defective, that's definitely something...
[[Go back->luminol]]
(set: $luminolliving to "There isn't any blood at all in the living space. This could mean that there was no struggle, or no struggle that anyone got stabbed in.")You spray luminol around the outline. There is only blood on the tip, which means that it wasn't stabbed too far down. Only far enough to reach the heart.

[[Go back->investigation headquarters]] As you look at the living space, you see chairs out of order that have been knocked astray in a struggle. Not more than you were expecting - kind of a disappointment.
[[Go back->magnify]]
(set: $livingspace to "There was likely a struggle in the living space on closer examination. Chairs have been knocked down. It wasn't more than you were expecting, and was a disappointment, but perhaps when put together with everything else it will show you the truth...")Using your magnifying glass, you look closely at the outline of the body. Nothing seems to be unusual...but then something glinting catches your eye. You bend down to pick it up, and there is a silver button belonging to a man's coat. You look at the brand.
To look up where the coat came from, you go to the store of that brand. There is a full rack of brown coats. No one seems to be buying them. Next to it, there is an empty rack that someone it loading up with black coats. When you look closely, you see that the button isn't scratched - the coat must have been new.
[[Go back->magnify]]
(set: $chalkoutline to "On the chalk outline, there was a button. It does not seem to be bloody, so it's probably belonging to the killer. It's new and shiny. The store that sold it had a full rack of brown coats that no one seemed to be buying, and an empty rack that was being refilled with black coats.")Looking closer at the dagger, nothing seems out of the ordinary. It's more of a knife, and could be bought at any sort of store.
[[Go back->magnify]]
(set: $dagger to "The dagger seems normal enough. It could have been bought at any kitchen store.")You start dusting for fingerprints around the living space, but you realise that no one would have intentionally pushed one of these things aside with their hands. This was a useless search.
[[Go back->fingerprints]] As you examine finger prints on the outline, you realise that it's a useless task. No one would have touched the ground beside the body.
[[Go back->fingerprints]] You dust around the handle of the dagger, and you find a set of fingerprints. Excitedly, you look for a match using a fingerprint-matching device on the coffe table. You didn't have one of your own, so it was lucky that the officer had thought that far in advance.
The machine beeped, and eventually came up with a match... Mr Greene. The man who worked under the officer in the police force.

"Hi," you smile. "I just want to come in to ask some questions about George Montgomery's murder. I'm $name, and I'm with the police."
"Oh, yes," Fiona says. "Yes, of course. Come in."
You follow Fiona through the hallway and into the kitchen. She offers you a plate of chocolate chip cookies, and you decline, even though they look delicious. If she is the murderer, it would be unwise to take anything she offers you, as it could be poisoned. "Suit yourself," she shrugs, and picks one off the plate for herself.
"I know I'm on the suspect list because me and Vicky found the body," Fiona said as she munched on her cookie. "But trust me - neither me nor Vicky are the murderer." She shivered. "We just aren't that cold-blooded. [[So what do you want to know->askfiona]]?"You knock on the house of Victor Harrison. He answers. He's tall and towering, wearing a long brown coat.
"Who's there?" he asks.
"I am," you say. "I'm $name, and I'm with the police. I'm investigating the murder of Mr George Montgomery. May I ask you some questions?"
"If you must," Victor grunts. He welcomes you inside.
You follow him into the kitchen, where he pulls out a chair for you. You sit down, and he sits down opposite.
"I know that me and Fifi are suspects," Victor says. "I swear it wasn't us. We wouldn't do something like that. Ain't you got other people on that list of yours?"
"That's information specifically for the members of the police force, and those working for them," you say stoutly. You swear you can see a flicker of a smile pass across Victor's surly face.
"Orright, kid," he said. "I'll cooperate. [[Whaddaya want->askvictor]]?"Mr Greene is one of the suspects? Mr Greene, who works under the officer?
You knock on Mr Greene's door. He answers. "Why, hello, hello, hello!" Mr Greene says. "You must be one of those charming little Lady Detectives the police force has given a little game! Which are you, Gemma or $name?"
You grit your teeth. "//Detective// will do just fine, sir," you say. "And this isn't a game. This is murder." You extend your hand to shake his. "And my name is $name."
"Ah, a pleasure to meet you," Mr Greene says, shaking your hand gently as if he is afraid it might break. "Come inside, and ask all the questions you want."
Mr Greene's house is cozy. Really cozy. He leads you into a nice living room with a real, crackling fire. //This detective thing must pay well//, you think as Mr Greene drapes his black coat on an armchair. He gestures for you to sit down, and he does so himself.

Fiona rarely cooks, but often eats and orders out.
